THE FUTURE-PROOF YOUR CHILD FREE STARTER COURSE
Help your child be a creative, smart and curious little human who finds success and happiness – no matter what the future brings.

WELCOME
This free starter course consists of a collection of videos and activities from across our range of Future-proof Your Child programs and provides you with an overview of what the future will look like and the skills your child will need to learn.

CHANGE IS COMING
The world is changing at a scary pace and technology is predicted to completely disrupt the world of work your child will be entering in the coming years. Many of the careers that we think of today as providing financial success are slowly being automated away by artificial intelligence.
This problem has been made worse by the global pandemic as many company owners have turned to automation when employees were unable to come into work.
Your child needs to learn the future skills that unfortunately education systems around the world are just not teaching and that is where our program is trying to help.
The videos below will provide you with a solid overview of the problems your child will face and how you can help them navigate this uncertain future and come out on top.
The Future Has Arrived
We are all now living in the future. It’s finally arrived! All of those Hollywood movies that involved different versions of the future (Blade Runner, Back to the Future, 2001: a space odyssey) were all set in our past!
In this video we take a look at where technology is currently and how it is on the verge of changing the way we will all live and work in a profound way.
The Problems Facing Our Children
This video takes a look more directly into the affect technology is going to have on your child over the next 5-10 years.
It also touches on why schools are not reacting to this problem in any meaningful way and explains why the answer is not as simple as just teaching kids how to code!
The History of How We Educate
This video is a must watch for any parent, no matter how your child is educated. We take a look at the history of education and find out why schools are set up in the way they are.
When you look at the roots of schooling you get a clear understanding of how we have arrived at the current state of education and how it seems that innovation is so difficult and painfully slow to implement.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution
Pushing children to rote learn information and spit it back out at exam time is just not going to work for the world we are living in now and where things are heading over the next 5-10 years.
This video looks at the skills that have been identified as being key to your child’s success in the future.

THE 6 FUTURE-PROOF SKILLS
Each one of our six programs is focussed on one of the critical future-proof skills and consists of a range of fun activities designed to form habits and behaviours that nurture these skills and create a person who is ready to take on the world of tomorrow and thrive.

Below are some of the materials from our Creative Thinker Program. Many children find that school doesn’t provide much time to ponder and think creatively and that’s a problem as this skill is going to be incredibly important in the coming years. ⠀
When researchers asked the bosses of 1500 companies to name the most important skill a person could have, creativity was number one on their list.
The world needs more original and creative thinkers, so future-proof your child by nurturing their creativity.

Activity: The Creator of Worlds
They will need: Just a pen, notepad and this printed activity sheet.
How it works: It is the future and humans are now living on multiple planets around the galaxy. We now have the capabilities to design and create any planet we can dream of and your child has been selected to design and name the next planet that we colonize and call our own.

Activity: The Creativity Builder
They will need: Just a pen and this printed activity sheet.
How it works: The Alternative Uses test was developed by J.P. Guilford in 1967. The test aims to build your creativity by asking participants to name as many uses for a particular everyday object as possible. In addition to this activity you can test your child any time as its an excellent way of practising their originality, flexibility and creative thinking skills.

According to mental health organisations, a worryingly high percentage of our children are suffering from anxiety and other mental health problems. The pandemic has compounded this issue and many young people have struggled with lock downs and the isolation they delivered. The below videos take a look at the benefits of nurturing resilience in your child and discuss ten ways to do so.

Activity: Stop & Reverse
They will need: Notepad and pen
How it works: This activity is all about stopping and reversing negative and unhelpful thoughts. Like anything else, it takes practice and your child may struggle to control the really strong thoughts at the start.
Like many of the activities in this program, your child should try to introduce the habit of challenging their thoughts on a regular basis and form the habit of turning those thoughts around when it is possible to do so.

Activity: Search for the Silver Lining
They will need: Notepad and pen
How it works: This activity will get your child in the habit of thinking positively. With practice, your child will train their brain to always look for the positive side in any situation. The habit can become an entertaining and challenging game that you join in with and it’s very helpful to help your child practice this by asking them to find the silver lining with a situation in your own life or in the life of a TV, book or film character.

Most children are bombarded, from an early age, with information about ‘what to learn’. However, when are they ever taught the tips and strategies of ‘how to learn’?
Some children grow up thinking that they lacked intelligence when all they needed was the right techniques, and the knowledge that there are different types of learners in this world.
Teach your child the right way to learn while they are young, and you have given them a gift they will benefit from their entire lives.
This program is designed to help your child learn the effective strategies behind successful learning.

Activity: Sticky Facts
They will need: Post-it Notes and a pen
How it works: Many of the things your child is passionate about are yet to be discovered and this activity will help them form a habit of exploring different things on a regular basis.
Like many of the activities in this program, your child should try to introduce the habit of exploring new passions on a regular basis.

Activity: Memory Fetch
They will need: Notepad and pen
How it works: When it comes to making sure the information your child learns sticks in their brain, this activity has been proven to be extremely powerful.
Instead of re-reading or highlighting the information they are trying to learn, they should practice the following memory exercise.

It is a disappointing fact that in many cases, ‘ school’ itself is the very thing responsible for the death of a love of learning.
Education concentrates on achievement and test scores and seems to, more often than not, forget that the focus should be about igniting curiosity and wonder in the minds of our children.
Until there’s a revolution in how kids are educated, it’s up to us as parents and caregivers to instill and nourish a love of learning in our children to ensure that they have the best chance of thriving in a rapidly changing world and the activities and resources in this program are designed to do just that.

Activity: Bringing the Story to Life
They will need: Notepad and a pen
How it works: This activity is one of our favourites and, if you like watching movies, it will probably be one of yours too. Our aim here is to find books that have been made into movies. You and your child will be reading the book first and then watching the movie and seeing if you can spot the differences between them. They should note any differences as well as how the movie differed from the images they had in their mind while reading the book.

Activity: My Book of Wonder
They will need: Notebook and pen
How it works: Research has shown that the habit of learning new things on a regular basis throughout your life actually makes you happier.
This activity is all about hunting down the things in this world that fill your child with passion and wonder.
